First French translation of the founding essay of the Spanish architect on type in architecture. After having already translated in 2019 another book – Silencios elocuentes – by the same author, Cosa Mentale Editions want to continue making possible the discovery of Carlos Martí Arís’ lesson, considering it of fundamental importance for the current architectural culture. In particular, in this book, the author presents a theory of architectural design according to which the idea of type is not conceived as a mechanism of reproduction but as a structure of form capable of multiple developments. This edition includes an introduction by Raphael Moneo, one of Spain’s most internationally renowned architects, whose lucid view of the past and present underscores the extreme timeliness of the contents of a work originally published in 1993.
